There is lots to see and do in Loreto

Loreto provides many opportunities for numerous types of recreation. Among the most popular are eco-tourism, sport- fishing, diving, surfing, sailing, snorkeling, hiking, golf and rappelling. Or simply wander the streets of this quaint town with its scenic malecon, ending with a not-so-serious “chill” session on the beach. visitloreto.info/

Learning About Loreto

The connection between Ventura and Loreto extends beyond our involvement in the Sister City Program.

Ventura is a Sister Island/Sister National Park with Loreto, because of the five islands off the Ventura Coast that make up the Channel Islands National Park, and the five islands off the Loreto coast are within the Loreto National Marine Park. The islands off Loreto’s coast include Danzante, Isla del Carmen, Isla Coronado, Monserrate, and Santa Catalan. Collectively, they’re known as the Coronado Islands, (and Loreto National Marine Park), and boast Mexico’s largest marine preserve. Dolphins, seals, sea lions, turtles, many types of fish and seabirds thrive in the marine preserve’s crystal-clear multi-hued waters. Many good articles are available online about these Islands, including The Islands of Loreto: Mexico’s Pueblo Magico Paradise (GoNomad)

Our Sister City relationship with Loreto also focuses on Eco-Tourism and the arts. We work with Eco-Elianza in Loreto to support Eco- Tourism and the environment in both our communities.

The Gulf of California is a marine wonderland. Washed by crystal blue waters and dotted with arid islands large and small, it teems with whales, sea turtles, manta rays, and other animals that thrive in this spectacular meeting of desert and sea.
